What is cupping?

alexandra_modell_wellness_cupping

Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique in which heated glass cups are applied to the skin along the meridians of the body, creating suction as a way of stimulating the flow of energy. The suction from cupping helps bring blood flow to a specific area of the body, increasing the nutrients/oxygen to the tissues and helping to remove toxins. The more blood flow to an area of the body, the greater capacity for healing. Cupping is a great addition to acupuncture

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique that stimulates the body to heal itself. Gua means “to scrape” and sha means “petechiae” or the red/purple color produced when a practitioner scrapes the skin with a rounded edge tool. When there is an obstruction or lack of good blood flow in an area, our body tissue becomes unhealthy and this results in “Sha”. Gua Sha is a healing method that returns flow to that which was previously stagnant in the body. Gua Sha is also a great addition to acupuncture.

What is acupressure?

alexandra_modell_wellness_acupressure

Acupressure is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that involves treating blocked energy, or qi, by applying manual pressure to specific points on the body. It is similar to acupuncture, except that it uses fingertip pressure instead of needles. By improving energy flow, acupressure can help with a range of conditions, from motion sickness to headache to muscle pain.
